Lily Grace on a recent trip to Barnes and Noble became very interested in a butterfly kit. Having done this same activity with my kindergartners while teaching, I was very excited to share in it with her.
Our whole family got really involved in observing the daily changes that occur from caterpillar to butterfly. Lily Grace could often be heard saying, "Good morning little fellows," while they were still caterpillars. (She also insisted that they stay on her night-stand by her bed.)
Once the caterpillars formed chrysalis, Lily Grace and daddy moved them to their new habitat. After several days of waiting and watching, butterflies begin to breakthrough and emerge. We ended up with 5 pretty butterflies.
After a day of enjoying them up close, we took them out and released them after breakfast. (And of course you should be wearing a butterfly gown if you just happen to be releasing butterflies after breakfast. Doesn't everyone? HA!)
